Canvas Down Today? Thousands of Students Panic After Alleged ShinyHunters Hack Message

Canvas Down Today? Thousands of Users Report Outage Amid Shocking Hack Rumors

Students and teachers faced chaos on Thursday after the popular learning platform Canvas by Instructure reportedly went down for thousands of users worldwide.

According to Down detector, more than 2,000 users reported issues accessing Canvas at the peak of the outage. Many students claimed they were suddenly logged out, unable to submit assignments, or blocked from accessing final exams.

What made the situation even more alarming was an alleged message linked to the hacker group ShinyHunters appearing on some users’ screens.

Social media quickly exploded with reactions. One user posted:

“Final exam just got canceled cuz Canvas got hacked wtf. Can’t tell if we are so up or so down.”

Screenshots of the mysterious message spread rapidly across platforms like X and Facebook, causing panic among students already stressed about exams and deadlines.

At the time of writing, there has been no official confirmation that Canvas was actually hacked. Experts believe the outage may have been caused by technical server problems, though investigations are still ongoing.

Canvas is one of the most widely used cloud-based Learning Management Systems (LMS), helping schools, colleges, and businesses manage online and hybrid learning.

The unexpected downtime once again highlights how dependent modern education has become on digital platforms — and how vulnerable these systems can feel during outages or cyberattack rumors.

Students are advised to stay calm, avoid sharing unverified information, and wait for official updates from their institutions or Canvas support teams.
