Eight Children Killed in Louisiana Shooting: What We Know So Far

A heartbreaking shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, has left at least eight children dead. The victims were between 1 and 14 years old. Police said the incident happened on April 19 and described it as a domestic disturbance.

According to officials, the shooting spread across three homes, making the crime scene large and difficult to process. Shreveport Police Department Corporal Christopher Bordelon said the scene was “extensive.”

Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux called it possibly the worst tragedy the city has ever faced. He asked the community to keep the victims’ families in their prayers and said the pain is being felt across the entire city.

This shooting is being described as the deadliest mass shooting in the United States since January 2024, according to the Associated Press/USA TODAY/Northeastern University Mass Killing Database. The database also says this is the ninth mass killing and the seventh mass shooting recorded this year.

As the investigation continues, the community is mourning a terrible loss, and many people are searching for answers after this devastating tragedy.

Police said the gunman was believed to have some relationship with two women who were also shot, but the full details are still unknown. Both women are in critical condition, and officials said more information will be shared after the victims’ families are notified. As the city struggles to process the tragedy, Senator Bill Cassidy called it “horrific violence,” and Governor Jeff Landry said he was heartbroken. Mayor Tom Arceneaux said it was a terrible morning for Shreveport and that the entire community is grieving with the victims.
